Homework
ADV believes homework (completed at home) benefits every student in several ways:
- it helps students, even the very young, develop greater focus and initiative;
- it helps students understand time management and study skills;
- it reinforces techniques and strategies taught earlier in the day; and
- it encourages parents to be involved in their child's education and stay abreast of the skills and information the child is learning.
Homework should be age-appropriate; that is, the length and difficulty should be based on the age and grade of the student. ADV goes by the research-based "rule" that about 10 minutes of homework per grade progression is appropriate. Therefore, Kindergarteners should do about 10 minutes of homework each night and 4th graders should do about 40 minutes of homework.

Teacher conferences to set up an appointment. We will be scheduling school-wide parent conferences in late September/early October. At these individual meetings, each teacher will share the most recent MET-8 achievement tests results and interpretations, and for grades 1-5, a comparison of the last year's and this year's test results. Each teacher will also share how the child is doing so far, and the goals and expectations for the year.
Volunteers
All school volunteers MUST complete the Pinellas County Schools' Volunteer form and return it to school in person. At that visit, we will need to make a copy of your driver's license.
